The "ICON" of my community is the railway track of the Malaysian Railway.
There are thousands of Malaysians who travel to Singapore in search of better life and a train journey is one of the most preferred modes of transport. In many ways, the track portrays a boundless journey that never ends.
When I was a little boy and lived in Malaysia, I used to visit an old uncle who owned a banana plantation by the railway track. Once the train passes, I would run to the track to see the tail of the train fading into the far corner. What's left behind is the boundless track.
Once, I asked the old man where does the track leads to and the unassuming reply was Singapore. So I told him what if I ran along the track, would I reach Singapore? The old man giggled and told me to find out myself when I grow up and tell him what it is like to be at the end of that track.
Today, as I stand near that same track in Singapore and watch the youngsters alight the train, my reminiscence of that old man and his banana plantation flashes by my mind. How I yearn to go back to the old man and tell him that I have reached the end of the track and tell him that the end is just a reversal of the beginning. A new journey just yet.
I'm going to re-enact the event above with a flashback scene of a young boy and the old man conversing near a train track with an ending shot of a train fading into the horizon leaving its track behind. I may use voice over and text to enhance my visualizations. |
