"Teh Tarik" seems to be the best icon to represent the community I live in. Teh tarik or literally translated as 'pulled tea' is a common favourite local tea that is pulled to make it, I think, less hot.
Still why is it any different from normal tea is a mystery. But no matter where I go, whoever I meet, I'm bound to hear "teh tarik satu!". It is probably the one icon that brings my community together and the one icon that my community has such great ownership over.
I choose to tell the story of "Teh Tarik" by going around stalls which I feel attached to. Stalls where myself and my friends go to to hang out. These stalls on its own already represents a micro version of the community I live in. I will show these stalls and its patrons. Who they are, what they're like and maybe a theory or two they have about teh tarik.
Then I'll also show the stall owners, who they are and how they feel about they're micro Malaysia.
The idea is to show teh tarik as a gelling factor for the people in my community
