When I learned about First Time Mobile Film Makers, I realized the appropriateness of the subject to the medium. What better way to present such a unique phenomenon - the effect that the celphone has had on the Filipinos - than through the lens of a celphone?

The celphone itself has become an icon of the Philippine society. Street vendors. Students. Business people. The employed and unemployed. They have all wholeheartedly embraced the wonders that mobile phones can bring.

Dubbed the texting capital of Asia, the 7,107 islands of the Philippines have become united because of this technology. Whether it's in the urban jungles of modern Filipino society or in far-flung, unelectrified farming communities, the chances are you will find a beeping, ringing celphone.

Its power was instrumental in the deposition of one of the natio\'s leaders. It has bloated the demand for both legal and illegal celphone services and complementary products. And it has fueled what is considered as one of the nation's pasttime - gossiping.

This documentary shall present segues of how celphones have changed the lives of four different people (a business person, a housewife, a celphone technician/vendor and a celphone thief/snatcher) representing four highly different levels of Philippine society. It will show both the positive (i.e. encouraging out of school youth to learn how to repair celphones and make a living out of it) and negative sides (i.e. celphone snatching) of the celphone phenomenon.

I have always wanted to make a documentary about how celphones have changed the culture, lives and morals of the Filipinos. I have no formal training in film making so I'm not really expecting to be given the privilege to work with Discovery (with just 15 participants from hundreds of thousands? And open to amateurs and professionals alike?) but at least FTMF has planted the idea on how I should present such a topic.

I just believe that it would be an honor to work with the people who inspired me to pursue the project
